Bocci 22 electrical components install flush with finished-wall materials, eliminating conventional cover plates for switches, receptacles, telephone and data plugs, and cable connectors. One version is made for drywall, and another for wood, glass, stone, or other nondrywall finish material. For installation in drywall, the appropriate component is inserted into the faceplate and connected to wiring inside a standard electrical box. The plate is screwed to the box and covered with joint compound. After painting, a protective facing is peeled away to reveal the face of the component. Installing the nondrywall version, the Bocci 22.2.4, is similar; in both cases, positioning the electrical box precisely is essential.
All that minimalism comes at a price: 15-amp receptacles are $75 a pop in a box of 10, and single-gang mounting plates are $50 each in a box of 10. Other prices are listed on the company’s website (www.bocci.ca/collection). Components come in one standard color (white), but custom colors can be ordered.
