Tamlyn’s Xtreme Trim is a full line of profiles, primarily made from aluminum, that are designed to work with fiber-cement siding and that feature a stamp of recommendation from James Hardie, a leader in fiber-cement siding.
Xtreme Trim is available in several varieties of horizontal and vertical reveals, inside and outside corners, and other profiles. Tamlyn offers direct sales through its online store (tamlynstore.com), and prices are roughly on par with metal flashing products. Unless otherwise specified, all Xtreme Trim profiles are sold primed and ready for paint, but color-match and anodized finishes are also available.
There are a couple of important things to keep in mind when installing Xtreme Trim. First, although aluminum doesn’t rust, it can corrode. If this trim will be installed in contact with pressure-treated lumber, make sure to isolate it with a layer of flashing tape to prevent a galvanic reaction. Also, recoat all field-cut edges in order to maintain the product warranty. Be aware that although some profiles of Xtreme Trim can work as part of a well-designed water-management system, they aren’t a substitute for proper weatherproofing.
