As soon as my hands get dirty on a job site, it seems like my smartphone starts to ring. To keep from getting it dirty, too, I started keeping it in a zip-top plastic bag. Now I can answer the phone with dirty hands and not damage the case or screen. The touch screen works fine through the plastic bag, as do all the buttons and the voice service. The zip-top bag lasts about a week before it needs to be replaced. In addition to providing protection on a job site, the bag also has protected my phone from rain, salt air, sand, peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, and a number of other things that might have shortened its life.

Nice.
I leave mine in a Tupperware.
Look for a waterproof case. The waterproof cases are sealed and have a rubber flap that goes over the power port so dust stays out.
