Interesting that such high-end custom work would be installed in a low-end framed home. The architect/contractor should have specified laminated studs here, that were plumb and in line, and with walls being square to each other, all within specified tolerance.
That being said, a good drywaller could have skimmed this perfectly flat in advance and saved considerable work. (Instead of scribing, I've done this when installing laminate countertops.)
I'd make one other suggestion. To make painting much easier, use a layer or two of box board (cereal box) to offset the cabinet panel from the wall. You'll get a perfectly straight cut-in line.
