You can do some cool stuff with PVC decking by heating it up. Tacoma, Washington deck builder Jason Russell borrows technology from the aerospace industry to bend PVC decking. The Seattle/Tacoma region is home to Boeing, and a local company makes heating blankets intended for warming carbon-fiber composites so they can be bent into airplane components. Turns out those same blankets can convert PVC decking to a limp-pasta state, which lets Russel bend it to shape. Cooled back down, the decking stays bent, making it a great material for benches, inlays, and other curved deck features. Check out Russell’s video for a heavy-metal overview of the process.
