If you got to carry a long extension ladder around, you could pick it up two or three times to find the balance point, but there’s a better way.
This tip comes from Jim Parker of Littleton, Colorado:
First, pick up the first half and find the center point like you normally would. Then, make note of that with some spray paint. Spray on both sides so it is something you cannot miss. Do the same thing with the second half.
Now, whenever you pick the ladder up you know exactly where the center point is, ensuring it will be level when you carry it.
And, if you put the two ladders together, you can still see those balance points and easily find the new center point. Simply eye-ball the difference between the two points, and pick up the ladder in the middle of those points.
