DeWalt DWE315K Multitool
Variable speed control with LED light
I’ve tried most of the oscillating multitools on the market, and the corded DeWalt DWE315K (about $150) is my favorite. The paddle-style switch took some getting used to, but I’ve grown to love the variable speed control it offers when I’m making delicate plunge cuts. The LED light is well placed, and I found it surprisingly useful. I think this is an ideal tool for a soft-sided carrying case, simply because of the many accessories that ride along with it. But the best part of this tool is the blade-change mechanism. It requires no wrenches and has no loose parts—just a stiff, spring-loaded lever that unclamps the toothed jaws on the business end of the tool. The only caution here is that you have to be careful when buying blades; many are not compatible with DeWalt’s setup.
