Project House: Built-in Bookcases, Ep. 4 – Installing the Doors and Mantel
Justin and Mike start another big day with fitting the doors to the cabinets
After trimming the doors to get a perfect reveal, Mike cuts the mortise for the butt hinges using a simple, site-made router jig, a trim router, and a bearing-guided bit. With the doors hung, Mike and Justin move on to the side panels, first scribing them to match the thickness of the face frame. They trim the panels with the track saw and install them with finish nails from the inside of the cabinet and wood glue. Mike uses a stair jig to create a perfect fit for the frieze and shelf. At the end of the day, the bookcases are ready for trim.
