Have you ever had one of those plastic cutting boards that after a few years of use is so gouged and discolored you’re afraid to use it? I did. Instead of throwing it out, I took it out to the shop and ran it through my thickness planer a couple of times. The plastic is soft enough not to nick the blades, and the new surface is pristine.
