Sometimes all the pieces of a design jigsaw puzzle seem to come together in a perfect fit. When they do, the results can look like this lovely house on a private island just off Nantucket Sound on Cape Cod. Designed and built by Polhemus Savery DaSilva architects and builders of Chatham, Ma., they had a spectacular site upon which to build. Craggy trees, tidal waters all around and spectacular views of boats, beaches and wildlife provide the homeowners with a sense of living in a nature preserve all their own. This lovely porch, built just off the kitchen takes advantage of its natural surroundings and actually gives an even greater feeling of spaciousness and protection from the elements by the large overhangs of the eaves. The house is sided with stained red cedar clapboards, the color fitting in nicely with the woodsy environment.
