I've installed plenty of shelves like the examples in the slideshow. However, I'm not the biggest fan of the shelf above with the bracket all along the edge. I prefer the shelf to be completely exposed with a bracket behind it.
I like to use floating shelf brackets from Right On Bracket. A few other companies sell something similar as well. They're universal for any shelf and I use them on a variety of projects. I highly recommend them.

Homebuilder32 - I have been looking for a good option to install floating shelves for my daughter in her newly-purchased townhome. This seems like the best solution and mom will be the heroine! Thanks. C_of_Ffx
