The triple decker is a three-story apartment building built primarily in the northeastern United States during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They were built by the thousands as an economical way to provide housing to the throngs of immigrant workers coming to work in the factories and mills of industrialized New England. Generally consisting of one apartment on each floor, it is common to see entire neighborhoods made up of these houses. In contrast to their generally austere design, this triple decker in Worcester, Massachusetts sports a Queen Anne tower and some decorative shingle work.
