This photo was taken on one of the last sunny days of fall, near the end of Vermont’s bright foliage season. I put on my 70 to 300 mm lens on my nikon D700 to shoot exterior details in the late afternoon light. My focus for the day had been on the unique materials surrounding the large windows. The pine with a clear sealer was glowing in the low-angled light and the pvc 2×3 panels (installed as a rain screen) added some vertical and horizontal lines for interesting compositions. As I zoomed in to explore the metal bracket fabricated by a local blacksmith, I jumped back when I spotted a tiny, grey dog staring at me. I laughed out loud and kept taking photos of him in the window as he sat like a statue. He soon laid back down quietly and I was happy to know that I caught a “real” moment that wasn’t just about the architecture but also about the family who lives there.
