Cordless tools make many jobs easier. Now, popular manufacturer Bosch is looking to make using its cordless power tools even easier with the introduction of its 18V Wireless Battery Charger system. Wireless charging, technically known as inductive energy transfer, means Bosch’s new setup allows the battery to charge by simply placing it on the charger–no plugs or metal contacts. Since new battery chemistry allows for varied-length charge cycles with no adverse effects, you can place your Bosch power tool on the charger platform every time you put it down. This makes it far easier for the tool to keep up with you.
If you have Bosch Blue lithium-ion tools, there will be no compatibility issues. The new battery will power existing tools. Older, non-wireless, batteries can’t, however, be charged on the charger. Also, the charger will not inadvertently charge other devices if placed on the charger.
In the future, it is likely that workbenches, tool cabinets and vehicles will be outfitted with “charging pads.”
