Pretty clever. Here's a fascinating way to measure a 90 degrees angle - you just use 3 planks.
1st plank - 3 parts long
2nd plank - 4 parts long
3rd plank - 5 parts long.

There are these big squares carpenters used to have, 24" on the long leg, 18" on the short one.
The basic model is called a 'framing square.' Add a few more markings, and it became a 'rafter square.'
