When Milwaukee released the Hole Hawg right-angle drill in 2014, it described it as optimized for electrical applications. Now, a bigger version has been unveiled that is said to be engineered with plumbers and HVAC professionals in mind. What this means is the cordless Super Hawg can take on the chore of cutting a 6-in. holes with ease.
The Super Hawg’s key components are its Powerstate brushless motor, Redlithium XC5.0 battery pack and Redlink Plus Intelligence hardware and software. As a brushless motor, the Powerstate motor is efficient, powerful and virtually maintenance free. The motor is completely designed and built by Milwaukee Tool. Milwaukee states the Redlithium XC5.0 battery delivers up to twice the run-time and recharges compared to a standard lithium-ion battery. According to Milwaukee, 75 2 9/16-in. holes can be drilled per charge. The system also features a battery fuel gauge. The Redlink Plus Intelligence hardware and software offers protection for the drivetrain, motor, and battery by preventing overloading, overheating and over-discharging.
The Super Hawg has a mechanical clutch in low speed (zero to 350 RPM). The high speed setting is zero to 950 RPM. With the battery installed, the Super Hawg weighs approximately 14 lb. The tools includes two batteries, a carrying case and a charger.
Along with a “bare” tool, two kits are planned–one with an all-metal keyed chuck and one with Milwaukee’s Quick-Lok chuck. The Super Hawg will be available in October of 2015.
