The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) has released two new documents focused on formaldehyde, specifically formaldehyde emissions from laminate flooring. “Laminate Flooring Outgassing: Technical Guidance” and “Formaldehyde: Is It a Problem in My Home?” were created by AIHA’s Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Committee Task Force on laminate flooring formaldehyde outgassing. There is pending litigation surrounding potential formaldehyde emissions from laminate flooring produced in China.
According to the AIHA, these documents were created to provide practical information for both consumers and industry professionals alike. The technical guidancedocument is an advanced document geared toward industry professionals. AIHA’s IEQ Committee states, “This technical guidance is intended for industrial hygiene professionals with the formal education, training, and experience necessary to collect samples capable of measuring indoor concentrations of formaldehyde in a manner that allows meaningful interpretation.”
The fact sheet was developed with the consumer in mind. It serves as a resource for consumers who suspect that formaldehyde emissions from laminate flooring in their home may be a danger.
