The previous staircase in this home had been very narrow in width and had only left a 30 inch landing between the first tread and the door. In order to create a more functional space, the hall adjacent to the stair was removed and the stair extended, improving the the width drastically. In addition, a window at the bottom was added, the entry door was moved, the treads were replaced with reclaimed pine, and the salvaged newel post and walnut “wreathed” handrail were added, making an overall gentler stair run.
