If your wood deck is starting to show signs of age such as cracks, splinters, or a weatherbeaten surface, one of the fastest and easiest ways to give it a fresh start is to use a deck-resurfacing product. Available in formulas to match both lightly and moderately worn wood and concrete exterior surfaces, Olympic’s Rescue-It is a 100% acrylic coating that’s thick enough to conceal hairline cracks, hide imperfections, and prevent splinters. The finished surface has what the manufacturer claims is a “barefoot friendly, finely textured, slip-resistant finish.”
According to the manufacturer’s technical data sheet, the product is applied with a high-quality brush or 1/2-in. nap roller. You can expect to cover approximately 100 sq. ft. per gal. with the “lightly worn” formula and 75 sq. ft. with the “moderately worn” formula. The process requires two coats with at least a six-hour wait between the first and second coats. Rescue-It sells for about $35 per gal.
