I confess-I am one of those people obsessed with laundry. I sort, select appropriate cycles, handle delicate items appropriately, and pretreat stains. This usually takes place in the bathroom sink, forcing me to dash dripping items from there to the laundry room. I’ve often wished for a washing machine with a built-in sink-and now there is one. Samsung’s new topload washing machine with Activewash (WA8700) features a sink with a water jet and scrubbing surface built into the washer lid. Scrubbing stains or hand washing delicate items couldn’t get more convenient: After pretreating your items, lift up the sink and drop them into the drum of the machine. The machine has a 5.2-cu.-ft. capacity and 15 preset wash cycles that include steam and sanitize as well as a SuperSpeed setting that finishes a load in 36 minutes. An automatic reminder every forty cycles prompts you to run the Self Clean cycle to keep the tub fresh. Similarly, the companion dryer (DV8700, 7.4-cu.-ft. capacity) has a vent sensor to alert you to lint blockages. Its 15 preset drying cycles include rack drying and a multisteam feature to remove wrinkles and odors and to freshen clothes without washing.
The MSRP for each is $1199.

Re-use the water from your pre-treatment? There's an idea.
However, I bet I can make something for my washer for a lot less than $1200!
The reason you need to prewash is because these washers don't work on their own. Had one and the clothes never got clean and the machine never rinsed out the soap. Had to buy a new washing machine.
