It’s good practice to cover your AC’s condenser in the fall so that over the winter snow, ice, and other debris doesn’t get inside of it. You shouldn’t wrap the unit in a tarp because that will trap moisture inside and lead to premature rusting. You could place a piece of plywood over the unit and secure it with a large rock, but there’s a better way.
Gene Klessor of Madison, Conn., uses an old saucer sled and bungee cords to winterize his condenser. This method leaves the louvres on the sides of the unit exposed so that there’s no chance of condensation forming on the inside. Watch the video to see the full tip.

What got bleeped out around the 00:16 - 00:20 mark?
Hey, Mike, we shot that video over the summer, and I don't remember exactly. But I probably said something like, "You could put a piece of plywood and a rock on top of your air conditioner, if you don't mind your house looking like the bleep end of hard times."
Hey,

Why not just cut the standard AC fitted tarp and cut it so it only goes a third or half way down?
I wonder how many will cover the heat pump systems, thinking they need to protect them over the winter?
