I shot this patio in early October at sunrise as the rays broke through the surrounding landscape, giving the stonework and plants a subtle glow. What draws me to this outdoor room is its mosaic-like bluestone patio that curves around the front of the home, repeating other curves in numerous borders, drawing the eye to the surrounding gardens. Hydrangea, summersweet, purple ninebark, and tall grasses enclose the space and perennials soften its edges with late season blooms throwing out fireworks of color. This is a room full of movement, color, and sound that changes with the seasons, giving the homeowners a place to sit around a fire under the stars, entertain, or watch birds at the feeder in winter.

Handy Heat Gun
This heat gun is great for drying joint compound, primer and paint when patching drywall and plaster walls. Plus it can soften adhesive, get a very cold small engine to start, and shrink heat-shrink tubing.
Available in 2- to 12-in. widths, this is a good general-purpose flashing tape that sticks well to most things. It features a two-piece release paper, water-shedding layers, and good UV resistance.
Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.
