This inglenook, part of a large family room in a new shingle style house, provides a cozy spot to curl up on a chilly day. In designing the house, architect Winton Scott of Portland, Maine gives recognition to the arts and crafts style, which was very popular in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Architects Bernard Maybeck, Julia Morgan, Greene and Greene and furniture designer Gustav Stickley were masters of the style, which frequently included such features as built in furniture and sitting areas like this one.
