As shown in the drawing above, I keep shims neatly bundled by using long zip ties. As I take out shims, I tighten the zip tie to keep the bundle nice and snug.

Great Tool
I save all my bread wrapper twist ties and weave them together into a really big twist tie. I use this instead of zip ties. This keeps the twist ties out of the landfill, and saves the planet from yet another piece of plastic.
