I recently painted a lot of moldings. Instead of standing them all over the garage, I made this simple rack to stack them. I built the rack from pieces of 3⁄4-in. plywood cut to 72 in. by 12 in. and then nailed to exposed studs. The slots that support the stock are 2 in. wide and 6 in. deep. But you could make the rack larger to take on bigger projects.

Planned out right, you could get both pieces from a single 18" wide sheet.
You might consider toe nailing 2 nails in each slot to act like a paint pyramid. The nails would need to stick out the same amount to avoid twisting the board.
