Back Up, Back Up …
Sometimes the best perspective on a house design is the one from farther back.
Something often overlooked in architectural photography is the view from afar. Sometimes the most interesting shot is the one taken from a distance, one that most folks will never see, and one that shows the context of the building. A few years back I was sent to the island of St. Barth’s in the French West Indies to shoot a house for a magazine. It was nestled into the mountainous terrain, affording incredible views, but up close to the house it was hard to show what a great location the house was in. So I climbed a nearby hill and discovered this view, which shows a more comprehensive perspective than one closer to the house. The bay of St. Jean and the island beyond offers more information than could be shown closer to the house itself. It worked. So, back up! Keep going, keep going …
