Windswept on the Vineyard
This Martha's Vineyard cottage was inspired by the sugar cane windmills of the West Indies.
This lovely cottage on Martha’s Vineyard designed by Hutker Architects was inspired by the sugar cane windmills of the West Indies. The curved form in the front corner and the low slung hip roofs pay subtle homage to those structures. In photographing the house, I was impressed by the scrub oaks that had clearly been shaped by the prevailing winds on the height of land where the house was built. I decided to use them as a framing element, adding depth and interest to the shot.
