Video Vault: Sarah Susanka’s Not-So-Big House Tour
A leader in the small-house movement tours a model home at the 2005 International Builders’ Show.
Architect Sarah Susanka’s 1997 essay “Not-so-Big” in the Fine Homebuilding HOUSES issue launched her into design stardom. In an industry where bigger is often seen as better, Sarah became the voice of reason as she championed building smarter, smaller homes through good design. Since then, Sarah has written nine best-selling books, including The Not So Big House (The Taunton Press, 1998), Not So Big Remodeling (Taunton, 2009), and More Not So Big Solutions for Your Home (Taunton, 2010). In this gem from the Fine Homebuilding Video Vault, Sarah walks us through her demonstration home at the 2005 International Builders’ Show.

Nice presentation! Hi Sarah. Please can you share the floor plan, (to get a sense of the size) the original budget & costs and time frame to complete as an addendum to this article?
This video was taken at a model house set up at the Builders' Show in 2005. Sorry, we don't have the floor plan or other details.
FYI floorplans are here:

It's huge. I did't like the alcove. I think it draws away from selling but you have the room to make a glass kitchen room made as an attachment to the house. I like the idea of different height ceilings. Good use of space.
What is "not so big" about this house? It's huge!
