Thermostats with embedded chips have both pros and cons.

This home was photographed for a magazine article about “smart homes.” There seem to be plenty of benefits to having a thermostat with computer power inside. The notion is that it “learns” your homes patterns and heats in the most efficient way. The downside being that during any software or computer glitch, from bugs to viruses, you will have trouble controlling your heat, as this journalist found out.
