So Near, Yet So Far …
Building a house on an island can make construction on the mainland seem easy.
The difficulties of building a house on an island can make construction on the mainland seem easy in comparison. In this case the island is only a half mile away, but imagine having to get all the equipment and materials over that distance in coordination with very strong and large tides which make using a boat or barge difficult. Builder Charlie Farrell took on the challenge, and three years later the Federal Style, timber framed house was finished. Many times materials were transported across the sand via heavy duty utility carts, but larger items, like the heavy timber frames themselves, were airlifted in by helicopter from the shore. Similar to the well known Mont Saint-Michel in France, but on a much smaller scale, when viewing this lovely house one has to wonder how did they build that out there?

A slideshow of that "Federal Style, timber framed house" would be nice. I guess we'll just have to take your word for it.
I agree with Suburbanguy, it would be great to read more about this house and see more photos. Perhaps there will be an article in FHB?
