Fiskars PowerGear Aviation Snips
With heavy-duty springs, comfy grips, and intelligently designed handle locks, Fiskar’s new aviation snips are better than anything that’s come before.
Long-frustrated with the mediocre performance of most aviation snips, Tool Tech host Patrick McCombe examines Fiskars’ recently introduced PowerGear line. Aviation snips never last as long as you think they should, and they seem to break right at the moment you need them most. Either the spring inside fails and the handles stop working, or the keeper gets bent and needs to be straightened to stay closed. Milwaukee’s version works pretty well, but the keeper pops open when a button is squeezed, which means the snips often pop open when they’re jostled in a tool belt. In comparison, Fiskars’ new aviation snips have a better keeper that can be operated on the top or on the side. They also have a gear arrangement that allows you to cut thicker materials. Most importantly, they include a real spring that should last a long time.
