An A-Frame Village
For visual impact, consider this series of tightly spaced A-Frame cottages with towering trees next to each one.
One of the things I like most about shooting architecture is that traveling becomes such an adventure. When going through new territory you just never know what you’ll find. A few years back I took a cross country road trip with the aim of shooting as much vernacular or roadside architecture as I could find. What a great experience! While traveling near Oracle, Arizona, in the middle of nowhere, I came across this fascinating architectural find named the Chalet Village Motel. I loved it. A series of tightly spaced A-Frame cottages with towering (cedar?) trees between each one. The overall visual impact was wonderful, and I shot it in black and white. I still love the image, one that represents the incredible and unusual palette of architecture in this part of our world. And there’s so much left to see! Oh, and by the way, I included this image in my book entitled Iconic, Perspectives on the Man Made World.
