Designed to be a dominant feature in the home and to be seen from almost every room, this living room fireplace balances the first floor interior as an anchor for the transition upstairs (and downstairs) via the quarter-sawn white oak main staircase. The raised hearth is solid 2-in.-thick limestone, deep enough for someone to sit on it. The custom fabricated wrought iron fireplace doors were locally made by IronArt. Another local craftsman, Matt Parisi, laid the Blue Mountain Ashlar for the main stone. Reclaimed timber from a nearby area in Vermont was used for the mantle. Warmth, coziness and a great view was what I was taken with in this room. I was happy that the last of the dahlias in my fall garden were just the right color to add to this space!
