Agricultural Architectural Design
Careful attention to details makes this barn stand out.
In my travels several years ago, I came across this handsome barn and a detached ventilator from its roof. The barn itself was quite stately, with some cool architectural details, like the diamond shaped dividers in the second story windows, the round window trim in the gable, and the multi-paned transom running along the top of the barn doors. Someone back in the day cared enough about making the building look nice to go to the trouble of adding those details. The building’s rich red color with white trim really stood out in the late afternoon sun, but the really interesting piece was the roof ventilator sitting on the ground in front of the buildings. The arrow on top had somehow been broken and was leaning toward the ground. I thought the whole thing was perfect and shot it with my large-format view camera. I love coming across scenes like this, which makes travel for an architectural photographer very interesting. You never know what you’ll stumble across!
