I recently bought an 8-piece set of Fisch brad-point bits on a whim. I saw them at a local woodworking store, thought of my dull collection of twist bits back home and the exacting tolerances of an upcoming project, and decided the $20 price tag was a gamble worth taking.
As soon as I took the first bit out of the holder, I was impressed. Absolutely sharp to the touch—point, spurs, and all—these bits bored some of the cleanest holes I’ve ever experienced, and cleared chips without clogs or smoke. The 8-piece set I purchased is metric and came with a holder, but a similar 7-piece standard set is also available, although curiously without the nice case.
If you think all drill bits are created equal, I recommend giving Fisch a chance to change your mind.
