The old adage from Robert Frost’s poem that “good fences make good neighbors” is debatable, I guess, but a handsome fence certainly adds an aesthetic benefit to one’s property, although at the cost of increased maintenance. A good example is this fence in Waldoboro, Maine, that combines simplicity with neoclassical touches, making a clean design statement with historic New England precedents. Rather than having a straight and level top, this fence has an undulating dip built in, which adds interest, while the urns on top of the posts have federal-style overtones.
