FHB Summit: An Interview With Justin Fink
Editorial director Justin Fink reflects on the experiences shared between our expert presenters and attendees at the FHB Summit.
We wrapped up the inaugural Fine Homebuilding Summit the first week of October, and we couldn’t have asked for a better event. Editorial director Justin Fink reflects on the experiences shared between our expert presenters and attendees and answers everyone’s burning question: Yes, there will be another Fine Homebuilding Summit in the near future.
Justin Fink:
“Well, the Summit is really sort of an antidote to living in a digital world. We wanted to get some of the best builders into the room together so that they could talk about design, construction, and the problems they’re facing out in the field. Most of what we talked about here was high-performance building. Try as we might, we always end up coming back to that as our rallying point in this brand. It’s the part of building that we’re seeing the most growth in and it’s also the most complicated.
There are no cookie-cutter solutions anymore like there were 30 years ago, so every house is often a unique example and requires careful thought, careful planning, and careful execution. We wanted to make sure we were supporting that by getting the best, most educated, most influential speakers in here to workshop with them.
When we had to figure out who we wanted as speakers for this conference, I will tell you two ways we went about it—one is the unofficial answer, and one the official. The official answer is I chose some of the best designers and builders in the country and the ones who I thought were going to be the most adept at sharing what they knew with a large group of people and really fostering that community in that discussion. The unofficial answer is I chose all the people that I wanted to see.
There will definitely be another Fine Homebuilding Summit. The real question is when… I would say a maximum of one year from now.”
