No-Scratch Metal Bucket
Adding a plywood bottom keeps floors safe from scratches when using a bucket as a tool caddy.
I build and install custom cabinets, and when I visit a house, I carry my tools in empty steel buckets (the catalyzed lacquer I use comes in them). To prevent them from scraping the floor, I cut out a circle of 3/4-in. plywood and screw the bucket to the plywood with 9/16-in. panhead screws from the inside, as shown in the drawing. This same approach works with plastic buckets.
