Self-Plunging Sink Drain
This flexible P-trap alternative allows you to clear blockages with a quick squeeze of the pipe.
This unique twist on the common P-trap is the brainchild of an industrial tubing expert with a family history in the home-building industry. Frustrated with rigid, leak-prone traps, product development director Todd Grayson adapted Crushproof Tubing Company’s EPDM tubing technology to create the Simple Drain—a flexible, seamless sink drainpipe that’s both easy to install and self-plunging. A quick squeeze of the clogged pipe forces the obstruction down the drain without the need for a plunger or chemicals. The Simple Drain comes in a kit ($15) with everything you need for installation except the scissors to cut it to length. I asked my teenage daughter, who has no plumbing experience, to install it in our bathroom, and it only took her a few minutes to get the job done after reading the included instructions. For those worried about the longevity of the squishy hose compared to a rigid pipe, the Simple Drain is made of the same EPDM rubber used on flat roofs and basement waterproofing membranes, plus it has an added antimicrobial component.
