Here is a precise way to make long rips on vinyl siding that only requires a simple ripping guide that can be built in a minute. First, take a scrap piece of vinyl siding (above left), lay it on a length of siding that requires a rip, and mark the placement with snips or a knife. Next, insert a utility knife (above right) in the notch, and slide the guide along the siding’s edge. This works great for making rip cuts for window and door openings and is especially useful for long rips, like on panels that meet the soffits in an eave.
