Adaptive Rainscreen Siding Clips
This fastening system from Nova USA Wood Products accommodates natural wood siding expansion and contraction.
Based in Oregon, Nova USA Wood Products is a hardwood product and accessory supplier that offers a line of rainscreen siding clips called ExoClad QuickClip. These ballistic nylon clips were designed to accommodate natural wood siding expansion and contractions. The clips flex to allow wood to swell up to ⅛ in. in width. As the wood dries, the fastener system moves the boards back into position, aligned and centered while fastened to the side of the structure.
According to the manufacturer, the clips allow less thermal bridging, are more flexible than other attachment means, and are lightweight. The clips work with hardwood siding like Ipe, Batu, and Cumaru, and softwoods like cedar, redwood, and Douglas fir. The clips also provide a ¾-in. standoff from the structure and can be drilled directly into the studs over the housewrap, creating a rainscreen gap. If nylon doesn’t meet your needs, Nova also offers the clips in extruded aluminum.
The extruded aluminum clips have a price tag of $1.59 each, while the nylon clips start at $1.39. You can calculate how many ExoClad Rainscreen QuickClips your project needs (depending on cladding width and spacing) as well as purchase clips directly at novausawood.com or through any of the company’s network of distributors.
