Simple Drain-Line Plug
This plug will prevent the drain line from leaking water during a garbage disposal or dishwasher replacement.
When you’re replacing a garbage disposal or swapping out a dishwasher, it’s surprising how much water comes out of the drain hose, no matter how thoroughly you attempt to drain it. To prevent getting water all over the place, I made a simple plug from a 3 ⁄ 4-in. piece of copper tubing with one end capped off with a push-to-connect end-cap fitting, which cost about $9. I secure the capped pipe to the rubber boot on the end of the drain line with a hose clamp while I make my repairs. If you know how to solder, a $1 copper cap will save you a few bucks.
