Stop Dropping Screws
The Impact XPS Mag Boost takes the magnetized bit concept to another level with a magnet accessory strong enough that you can barely shake the fastener off of the bit if you try.
Having a screw fall off the end of a bit driver can be a minor annoyance that requires a trip down a ladder—or it can be a major pain when you lose a specialty fastener that won’t be easy to replace. Some magnetic bit holders do a decent job at holding the fastener, but bits have a tendency to get stuck in the fastener and pull out of the bit holder. I prefer the longer stand-alone bits because they lock directly into the chuck and stay there. The problem with those longer bits is that they aren’t usually magnetized—and that’s the specific problem Makita’s Mag Boost is designed to remedy.
The $6 Impact XPS Mag Boost (model E-01345) takes the magnetized bit concept to another level with a magnet accessory strong enough that you can barely shake the fastener off of the bit if you try. This tool works with a variety of driver-bit brands and simply slides over the bit, so it’s easy to install and remove. It’s particularly helpful when you need one hand to hold on to a ladder or when you’re installing fasteners in those tight, hard-to-reach places.
