FHB Podcast Segment: Building a Shed Using Salvaged Materials
In this Fine Homebuilding Podcast Segment, our team shares expert advice on building a shed with salvaged materials.
In this FHB Podcast short from episode 635, Mike writes in to ask for advice on building a shed using salvaged materials. He plans to use 1×6 tongue-and-groove mahogany for siding and has salvaged double-hung windows and a basic exterior door. The shed will be built on sloped land, with floor joists raised between 6 to 20 inches on footings.
Among other questions, Mike asks “The floor will be framed on top of footings that will elevate the shed between 6 in. and 20 in. (the land slopes quite a bit). Do the floor joists need to be pressure-treated, or is regular, untreated lumber okay?” Watch the video above or tune into the Fine Homebuilding Podcast episode 635 to see our team’s answer.
