How to Assemble Housed Stairs With Construction Adhesive
Watch the video above and follow these steps to glue-up housed stairs so they won’t develop squeaks over time:
- Working from the underside, insert the tread and apply a healthy bead of adhesive into the stringer connection on both ends.
- Insert the wedges that lock the treads in place.
- For risers, run a continuous bead on the underside of a tread at the riser connection and a second bead along the back edge of the lower tread. Then position the riser, apply a healthy bead into the joints, and insert wedges.
- Before tacking the riser in place, secure the wedges, then drive two pocket screws at the under-tread connection and two trim screws at the rear-tread connection to clamp joints while the adhesive sets up.
- Apply a final bead to walls at stringer locations, then place the stairs and tack in position while the adhesive sets up.
