FHB Podcast Segment: Termite Damage Fix — Brick Porch and Door Repair
In this FHB Podcast Segment, the team chats about best practices for fixing termite damage on a brick-porch interface.
In this FHB Podcast segment from episode 649, Jeff is dealing with termite damage caused by untreated pine trim in contact with a brick porch:
“The termites ultimately were tunneling back to the subterrain between the porch and the house, either behind or in front of the flashing. The brick porch has a foundation that is part of the main foundation. I feel like having a brick porch right up against the house is a bad design; there’s no way to see mud tubes, regardless if they are flashed or not.”
The termites were exterminated, but he’s now looking to retrim the area with PVC. He wants to know if there’s a best practice or detail for a brick-porch interface, whether an air gap is necessary, and if the door needs to be replaced. The FHB Podcast crew weighs in on how to fix termite damage most efficiently.
