Locate the Center
Use a framing square to quickly find the exact center of a circle.
I recently needed to find the center of a circle on a piece of plywood in order to accurately line up the pilot bit on my hole saw. Here’s how I did it. First, I lined up the outside corner of the square with a random spot on the edge of the circle. I then marked the intersection where the outside edge of the legs of the square intersected with the edge of the circle.
Next, I connected those two marks with a straight line. I followed that exact same procedure once again, except I created the second line so it was somewhat perpendicular (it doesn’t have to be precise) to the first line. Where those two lines meet is the exact center of the circle.
