Sand Smooth Contours
Sand the recessed areas of a cabinet door without burning through raised edges using a homemade combination of sanding pads.
When you’re sanding the contours of a paneled cabinet door, it’s hard to achieve a smooth surface in the recessed areas without burning through the raised edges surrounding them. To achieve a more uniformed finish, I cut off a strip of one of my 10-mm sanding pads and install it on the top side edge of a 1/2-in. soft sanding pad.
This makes one side of the pad thicker, which helps equally distribute the contact points for both the high and low surfaces. I use the Uneeda sanding system, but a similar technique would work with other systems like Festool or even with hook-and-loop hand-sanding blocks.
