Stop Cracks at Corners
Enhance the holding strength of outside corner bead with a fiber-mesh tape.
Mechanically fastened outside corner beads technically don’t need tape before being covered with mud. However, if a crack appears down the road, it will follow the edge of the flange. To enhance the strength of these seams and add a little insurance against cracks, I like to install fiber-mesh tape on the flanges before covering them with mud. It only takes a few seconds to install and adds just a few dollars to the entire cost of a project.
