Finally there’s a use for all those old belt sanders, and circular saws collecting dust in your shed — power tool drag racing! In this video, veteran weekend warrior Bre Pettis shows how he built a winning racer from a power-edger, a roller skate, and a few strips of AstroTurf.

This reminds of the mid-sixties when slot car racing was the rage out in the west coast. The local association limited us to motors that cost less than ten dollars. I had to go to Japan on a TDY assignment for the Air Force. While there I bought several Globe motors that retailed for twenty plus dollars here in the US and I bought them and had the receipt showing my cost was about eight dollars US. The results? I blew away my competition and the association passed a law to outlaw my motors. So I took my motors, rewound them and encased them in epoxy and balanced them on razor blades. Results? Blew the competition away, again. I could just see taking a few windings out of a few motors and watching the fun.
